Compromised Directions Saxophone Quartet
from USA Compromised Directions is comprised of two graduate students and two undergraduates from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The quartet was most recently selected to perform at the 35th Annual International Navy Band Saxophone Symposium in January 2012, and will perform in a masterclass with Claude Delangle in February 2012. In addition, they performed at the 34th Annual International Navy Band Symposium in Virginia, the Region 8 NASA Conference in West Point, NY, and the New England Saxophone Symposium in Amherst, MA, all in 2011. Compromised Directions had the honor of representing the University of Massachusetts by performing at the 25-year celebration banquet honoring Massachusetts State Senator Stan Rosenberg in October 2011. The quartet has given performance clinics this past year at public schools in New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia. The quartet is enthusiastic about new music for their medium, and will be premiering two new pieces this year. All of the members are students of Professor Lynn Klock. |

Nostos "The Journey of Return" was composed in October 2010 at the request of the famed baritone saxophone player Gary Smulyan. The title of the piece refers to a poem by the American poet Louise Glùck. This composition endeavors to transfer the emotive, evocative or expressive state of the poem into a musical context. |
