Continuum Sax, Australia's foremost saxophone quartet, performs repertoire developed through engagement with leading Australian composers. They also perform select international repertoire, having presented Australian premieres of works by leading international composers Firsova, Donatoni, Sciarrino, Smirnov and Ligeti. Recent projects have involved adapting repertoire for the saxophone, widening the historical context within which to present their work. Continuum Sax has performed at the 2010 ISCM World New Music Days, the 2008 Restrung Festival, the 2005 Melbourne International Festival of Single Reeds, and the 2002 Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Conference. They have broadcast regularly for ABC Classic FM, including Sunday Live and the Australia Day outdoor broadcasts from Hyde Park (2008 and 2009).

Continuum Sax is active in education, having performed and workshopped student compositions for MLC School's Australian Music Days, and presented composition and performance masterclasses for Newcastle University. In 2008 Continuum Sax recorded a large number of educational works for reedmusic.com. Continuum Sax has released two CDs, Continuum (2001) and Icon (2005).

'This is a group that plays as one - a really beautiful, integrated sonority...' Review of Continuum CD, 24 Hours Magazine (Oct. 2002).

Olfeig - Martin Kay

Olfieg reflects the journey of a polar bear on a lab of ice, heading for the bullet upon reaching land. The calm before the tragedy is musically conveyed through cyclic motions of major thirds, unified by a four minute melody.

Ockhams Razor - Paul Stanhope

Ockham's Razor, the principle of ontological economy attributed to the 14th century philosopher William of Ockham, suggests directness of language. The academic title is tongue-in-cheek, given the exuberant nature of the work with its edgy, pop-influenced rhythms and flamboyant musical gestures.

Video Game Dreaming iii Game Boy Music - Matthew Hindson

Video Game Dreaming is a work written in response to video games, their characteristics and their effects upon our everyday lives. I have been an avid player of video games, going right back to Pong and Space Invaders through to the realtime strategy games of the current day.
