Duo Brioso
 from USA Dr. Farrell Vernon (sopranino saxophone) and Professor Laura Lydy (guitar) formed Duo Brioso as a creative outlet designed to develop literature for the unusual but lyrical instrumentation of guitar and Eb sopranino saxophone. As a result, numerous commissioned and non-commissioned works and exciting arrangements have been created specifically for Duo Brioso. Many of these works are featured on Vernon's three solo CDs and two compilation CDs. The group presents recitals throughout the Great Lakes region and performed during the 2007 Rome Festival in Italy. Laura Lydy is Assistant Professor of Music at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne (IPFW) where she teaches applied guitar, directs the guitar ensemble, and teaches core classes. She earned a Master of Music in Guitar Performance from Indiana University where she studied with Ernesto Bitetti. Dr. Farrell Vernon is Associate Professor of Music at IPFW where he teaches applied saxophone and directs the Jazz Ensemble. Laura Lydy and Dr. Vernon share an Indiana University-Bloomington connection as he earned his Bachelor of Music at IU, where he was awarded the prestigious Performer's Certificate. Vernon has presented world premieres at World Saxophone Congresses in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Bangkok, Thailand. Vernon's first solo CD, The Forgotten Saxophone, was released by Arizona University Recordings (AUR) in December 2007. His second solo CD, High Notes, was released by Centaur Records in 2011, and the third, Convergence, will be released by Centaur in 2012. The duo is featured on each of these recordings. |

Recitative and Dance. Moments, once remembered for Sopranino Saxophone and Guitar was commissioned by saxophonist Farrell Vernon. It is a substantial work, in five movements: each movement another in a series of emotional states experienced when one longingly reminisces for the simpler times of one's youth. That the movements are mostly based on "older" forms, such as canon, recitative, ostinato, barcarolle may be significant, or not. |
