from France

The Oct’Opus project is carried out by ten musicians who all graduated from French and European conservatories, and united by their keen interest in saxophone and chamber music. The ensemble makes the audience discover the saxophone from another angle, with original transcriptions and premieres. Their repertoire consists of the Trauermusik by P. Hindemith, the Concerto Grosso #3 by A. Corelli, the Village Dance by E. Chabrier, or the music written by A. Belliot for the film The Trip to the Moon by G. Méliès, among other works. Oct’Opus has been attracting attention on several occasions, such as the 2010 FNAPEC (the French national federation of conservatory student parents’ associations) competition in Paris or in the Selmer-Paris showroom, concerts within the "Val de Grâce" chapel (Paris), Lyons, and other provincial towns. The audience was pleasantly surprised and amazed by the tones and the repertoire of the ensemble. As an extension to their artistic activity, Oct’Opus recently recorded their first CD and have developed educational projects in favour of music schools. Oct’Opus have their heart set on meeting various artistic partners to propose different options: cine-concert teamed with a choir, soloist’s accompaniment, master class, or recital.

Concerto Grosso #3 - Arcangelo Corelli

i. Largo
ii. Allegro
iii. Adagio
iv. Grave
v. Vivace
vi. Allegro

This Concerto Grosso is a masterpiece of the Italian baroque era. The exchanges between the soloists and the orchestra in the fastest movements, as well as the intensity of the largo, give a wide range of moods to the piece. Oct'Opus voluntarily keeps the original layout and highlights the dialogue aspects of the work.

Danse Villageoise - Emmanuel Chabrier

The Village Dance is a famous work excerpt from the Pastoral Suite by Emmanuel Chabrier. Originally written for the piano, he orchestrated it himself afterwards. This original transcription based on the orchestra version gives the ensemble the opportunity to underline the various colour effects sought by the composer.

Ancient Hungarian Dances (Ugros) - Ferenc Farkas

Like Bela Bartok, Ferenç Farkas researched the traditional music of his country. He extracted various folksongs and arranged them to write music suites. These dances are ancient Hungarian dances, arranged and orchestrated by Farkas for wind quintet. Oct'Opus has rearranged the dances for the saxophone octet, successfully keeping the traditional aspect of the music
