Deep Blue - Andy Scott

Scored for Tenor Saxophone & Piano, Deep Blue was commissioned for Australian saxophonist Erin Royer. Deep Blue is both dark and light, ever-exploring, using colours that make the tenor saxophone such a unique and special instrument. Towards the end of the piece it is as if the musicians surface from the depths of the ocean, back to the real world!

Dot - Suzanne Kosowitz

Dot (2012) is a piece which explores an idea of 20th century artist Paul Klee, "a line is a dot that goes for a walk". Both instruments share equal roles in perforating the sonic landscape with short motivic bursts that develop into dense grooves. Just as a blank page is filled with little dots to create a much larger image, so too does the musical terrain of "Dot" evolve, just from a single note.

Forgotten Memories - Sean Bernard

The title reflects on the gradual build-up throughout the music, which could be interpreted as a rediscovery of 'forgotten memories', flooding back with greater clarity and speed as the piece moves on. Forgotten Memories explores the tonal colour, range and technical ability of the tenor saxophone. The piece moves through a gradual build up of intensity and technicality, allowing the player to fully explore a wide range of tone colour on the instrument, throughout its full range, as well as expressing the breadth of technical abilities available on the instrument.

Peppy Chipper - Ellie Cumming

Peppy Chipper (2012), meaning happy, is a vibrant and quirky piece, which was written for Australian saxophonist Erin Royer. The weaving melody and rhythmic drive creates a running dialogue between both the piano and saxophone. This piece showcases the different states of happiness ranging from 'bright and chirpy' to 'dreamy and blissful'.
