The Franco-American Saxophone Ensemble is a collaboration between American saxophonists and French Saxophonists, co-directed by Jean-Pierre Caens (Aix-en-Provence, France), and Dennis Shafer (Boston/NYC, USA).

Jean-Pierre Caens, saxophonist, musicologist, and teacher, is an acclaimed performer and professor of performance and musicology. Caens performs and directs chamber music as well as saxophone ensembles, and is passionate about both the traditional classical repertoire and contemporary music. He has been recognized by the French journal Diapason for his work, and is sponsored by Yanagisawa. He is the founder of the duo Sax Sax+, the quartet A Piacere and Alodia, and is actively involved with an array of ensembles, from Presence contemporaine to Ensemble de saxophones de Provence.

Dennis Shafer is a saxophonist, music director, conductor, and Soundpainter based in both Boston and New York City. As a saxophonist, 2010 marked Dennis Shafer's concerto debut in Jordan Hall with the New England String Ensemble, Federico Cortese, conducting, performing Chemins IV by Luciano Berio. The Boston Globe noted "the difficult solo part was played brilliantly by Dennis Shafer." In 2009, Dennis Shafer released his debut solo album and promoted it in a world-tour, and in 2008, he was presented a Legacy Award by Meryl Streep from the Creativity Foundation.

Illustration Analytique Supergelatineuse - Claudio Gabriele
