Gilmour's Eleven Duos owes much to the music of Steve Reich, who introduced the idea of phasing tape loops. When Reich translated this idea to the instrumental idiom he created music of great rhythmic intricacy. Here Gilmour combines this rhythmic energy with his own remarkable intuition for melody, and places it squarely in the lush tone-world of two soprano saxophones.
