Concertino for Alto Saxophone and piano - Allen Torres

i. Moderato
ii. Andante
iii. Animato

The Concertino for Saxophone and Chamber Orchestra was commissioned by Javier Valerio in 2011. By the mid-1800s, the wealthy coffee growers were able to use their economic strength to dominate Costa Rica's social and cultural scene. The first movement portrays the European music influence that was listened and imported by the Coffee Oligarchy. The second movement illustrates a bridge between the contrast of the aristocratic and the working class of the time. The third movement portrays the traditional fiesta that takes place in rural areas of Costa Rica after the religious ceremony. It portrays the bullfight, the town band, and the cantinas with the ever present of the Cimarrona band.
