One of this generation's greatest proponents of modern music, Dr. Jeffrey E. Vickers is world-renowned for his interpretation of contemporary art music. He has commissioned and premiered music in a variety of settings, including collaborations with composers Lemay, Lauba, Gotkovsky, Gabriele, Kerger and Michans. He is an artist/clinician for Selmer Paris Saxophones and Rico Reeds, and a member of the Mid-American Arts Alliance Touring Roster. He has performed and given masterclasses in over two dozen states and Europe, including numerous national and international conferences.

Dr. Vickers completed the Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University, with minors in music education and jazz studies. He also obtained his Master of Music at Indiana University with a minor in jazz studies. He completed his Bachelor of Music in education at the University of Mississippi, receiving several special recognitions.

Dr. Vickers has held appointments at Southern Arkansas University, Alcorn State University, University of Louisville, and Vincennes University. His final Doctoral Document, Slap-Tonguing for Saxophone: Historical Foundations, Pedagogical Approaches and an Annotated Bibliography, represents the most comprehensive study ever produced on the topic. He continues research in contemporary saxophone techniques, with current interest in the production of an encyclopedia of tempered multiphonics for saxophones.

This was commissioned through a grant from The Fund at the Hague (Netherlands). This represents the first solo work by Michans for tenor saxophone. It was commissioned as part of Dr. Vickers' Contemporary Tenor Repertoire Initiative, seeking to promote new literature for tenor saxophone.

DISCOÏDAL represents the first tenor saxophone solo by modern composer Thierry Alla. It was commissioned by Dr. Jeffrey E. Vickers as part of the "Contemporary Tenor Repertoire Initiative", which seeks to promote new music for tenor saxophone.
