Koen Dries (1986) is a saxophone player and conductor from Dessel, Belgium. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Norbert Nozy, where he graduated summa cum laude as a master in saxophone performance. He also graduated cum laude as a master in wind band conducting. Currently, Koen is working on a PhD in arts.
As a saxophone player, Koen is a two-time laureate from the competition for young saxophone players in Dinant. He is also a laureate first prize from the Axion Classics competition. He appeared as a soloist with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, the symphonic wind band of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and several chamber ensembles.
As a conductor, Koen conducted the symphonic wind band of the Belgian Guides, the Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss-am-Rhein, the symphonic wind band of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He is the resident conductor of the Limburg Chamber Orchestra and several wind orchestras.
Koen is teaching at the music academy of Mol, Geel and Balen. He was also assistant professor of saxophone at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and lector in musical theory at the Artesis University College in Antwerp.
