Louis-Philippe Bonin

from Canada

Louis-Philippe Bonin holds a bachelor's degree in classical saxophone performance under the musical direction of Jean-François Guay. Interested particularly in contemporary music without however neglecting repertory classics, Mr Bonin works closely with next generation composers to add to the rich repertoire of the instrument. He has attended classes of well-known saxophonists such as Jean-François Guay, Marie-Bernadette Charrier, Jean-Yves Fourmeau and Jean-Michel Goury. This has led him to perform in conjunction with important ensembles such as the Quatuor de Saxophones Nota Bene and the Ensemble Paramirabo with whom he premiered ''Ishtar'', for tenor saxophone and ensemble, by Frédéric Chiasson. Devotee of teaching, he is in preparation to begin studying with saxophonist Jean-Michel Goury in Boulogne, France. Mr Bonin plays exclusively with YAMAHA saxophones and is a endorsing artist for LÉGÉRE reeds.

The Blade of Horizon - Frédéric Chiasson

La Lame de l'horizon is a development of the argument drafted in Vue marine. It takes the same scenery, the same seashore. This time, the saxophone is alone, facing himself. Looking at himself, judging himself. Feeling it : battle is inexorable. He battles, but against what? His own double? His shadow? The wind? The sea remains true to herself, impassive judge. The piece was written for Jean-Michel Goury in the first months of 2010.
