Founded 20 years ago in Bordeaux by Marie-Bernadette Charrier and Christophe Havel, Proxima Centauri is a chamber music ensemble of variable geometry. Composer or pre-eminent soloists, all five musicians involved in this adventure share the same desire to promote current music by means of concerts and educational programmes.

Under the artistic direction of Marie-Bernadette Charrier, the ensemble has developed an original repertoire, by interpreting compositions of contemporary composers as well as compositions of great masters of the 20th century. In this sense, it practices a policy of active ordering with composers such as T. Alla, H-J Hespos, N. Tzortzis, C. Havel, P. Jodlowski, C. Maïda, H. Parra, F. Rossé and more. Since its beginning, Proxima Centauri offers a singular artistic approach by working with scenographers, lighting designers, dancers and plasticians.

Regularly invited to perform in France and abroad, the ensemble has taken part in many international events (SIMC, Ars Musica, festival Sonorités, Suona Francese, 38ème Rugissants, festival "Les Musiques".) and has made tours in Germany, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Japan, Peru, Chile and other places.

Proxima Centauri is supported by the Ministry of Culture - DRAC Aquitaine, Conseil Régional d'Aquitaine, Conseil Général de la Gironde, Ville de Bordeaux, by Spedidam, and Sacem.

Artificiel - Thierry Alla

Like in Fireworks of Haendel or Feux d'artifice of Debussy, I wanted to transcribe a festive atmosphere in Artificiel. In the pyrotechnical spectacles, it is at the same time the sight but also the ear which is requested at the time of the settings with fire. In this part, they are thus sounds without lights, projected in a space electro-acoustic.

XX - Christophe Havel

XX weaves a network of cross-links between the saxophone and the piano based on the idiomatic gestures of each instrument, which inspires the game of tensions. Thus, everything is played into the interstice that connects the specificities of each one, in the singularities that separate them, in the distance, which bring them together.

Coliseum - Pierre Jodlowski

Without being directly narrative, the form and the material of the piece follow a path that wandering suggested me: a dynamic and a strength game, which struggle or encourage, which divide or add.
