The Nelligan Saxophone Quartet was formed in 1994, with the mandate to showcase the contemporary and classical repertoire for the saxophone. The quartet's first season began in the fall of that year and it was followed by a tour in Europe in July 1995, which led the four saxophonists to perform in Belgium and France. In 1997, the Nelligan Quartet recorded its first album, a transcription for saxophone quartet of the Art of Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Since its beginning, the Nelligan Saxophone Quartet has performed in many Quebec concert halls, including Redpath Hall at McGill University, the Françoys-Bernier in Domaine Forget, the Chapel of the Grand Seminary of Montreal, the Théâtre La Chapelle, the Salle Marie-Stéphane of the Vincent D'Indy School of Music, the Cégep de Joliette, Cégep Marie-Victorin, Cégep de Drummondville, the University of Montreal, and Laval University.

Recipient of a fellowship from the du Maurier Arts Council for its 2003 season, the Nelligan Quartet had the opportunity to present a series of concerts on the theme of minimalist music in the greater Montreal area.

In July 2000, the Nelligan Quartet was part of the organizing committee of the 12th International Congress of the Saxophone in Montreal.
