Quartet for Saxophones - Jonathan Elliott

i. (wheel)
ii. organum
iii. prayer
iv. calliope.
Jonathan Elliott's Quartet for Saxophones was commissioned by the MANA Saxophone Quartet in 2010. This four movement work highlights the unique and varied textures that can be created in the saxophone quartet setting. Elliot is inspired by the flexibility and lyrical quality of the saxophone and his work juxtaposes lyrical melodies against minimalist textures.

Sechs Bagatellen - Gyorgy Ligeti

i. Allegro con spirito
ii. Rubato. Lamentoso
iii. Allegro grazioso
iv. Presto ruvido
v. Adagio, Mesto (Béla Bartók in memorium)
vi. Molto vivace, Capriccioso.

Gyorgy Ligeti first wrote his Six Bagatelles for two pianos and later it was arranged for woodwind quintet. A published arrangement of the woodwind quintet version has been arranged for saxophone quartet, however the Onyx Quartet will be performing a modified arrangement of this published version, referencing the original two-piano composition.
