 from Australia 'Vapour' for spatialised saxophone choir is a collaboration between Super Critical Mass (with Australian composers Luke Jaaniste and Julian Day), the Queensland Conservatorium Saxophone Orchestra and Noah Getz (United States). SUPER CRITICAL MASS (www.supercriticalmass.com) is a large-scale performance/installation project exploring spatialised masses of musicians playing identical instruments within public arenas, indoors and outdoors. Co-directed by Julian Day, Luke Jaaniste and Janet McKay, the group has presented events and conducted residencies across Australia and now internationally. 2011 highlights include brass around the lake at Central Park New York (MATA, Make Music New York), flutes at TESTexta in The Hague and brass in a parkland forest (University of Salford, FutureEverything Manchester). The QUEENSLAND CONSERVATORIUM SAXOPHONE ORCHESTRA, directed by DIANA TOLMIE, are enjoying its fourth year of evolution. As comfortable performing Baroque as they are with contemporary classical they embark on their first European tour in 2012, and they enjoy working with Australian composers through their annual 'Australian Made' program. NOAH GETZ (www.noahgetz.com) is a jazz and classical saxophonist based in Washington, DC who regularly commissions and premieres new works for saxophone. Hailed as a "highly skillful and an even more highly adventurous player" (Washington City Paper) with "virtuosity, sensitivity, and beauty of tone" (Fanfare), Received a first-round Grammy nomination with the New Hudson Saxophone Quartet and his albums Crosscurrents and Still Life released to rave reviews. |
