Sarah Markham & Paul Turner featuring Chris Jolly
from UK Sarah Markham and Paul Turner have been performing together since 1992. Sarah was the wind section winner of the Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition in 1995, where the duo also won the Erik Falk Trust award for the "balance and integration of [their] play together". Since then they have had a busy performing schedule all around the UK and internationally. They have performed live on Classic FM and Radio 3 and released three CDs featuring core works from the saxophone and piano repertoire, most recently 'Run, Sing, Fly' on the Saxophone Classics label, of which Sarah is Artistic Director. Sarah is a Yamaha Performing Artist and a Vandoren Performing Artist. "Sarah Markham is a remarkable saxophonist who deserves high praise for her sound, technique, interpretation, and phrasing. Sarah Markham's sound... is the definition of excellence, and her technique... is superb. As a performing duo, Sarah Markham and Paul Turner are incredible... the true magic is the way these two musicians work together to present the music.. Sarah's saxophone combined with Paul Turner's piano, is an outstanding musical experience for everyone to enjoy" - Paul Wagner, Saxophone Journal |
TRIp - Chris JollyTRIp was written in 2011 for Reed Play. It has been adapted and developed especially for this performance with the original bass clarinet part now on baritone. The work is based on a groove that finally settles after being introduced in a driving yet unstable opening.Sonata in Eb - James Raei. Moto Capriccioso

James Rae's Sonata in Eb for Alto Saxophone and Piano was written for Sarah Markham and Paul Turner "to showcase the immense musical and technical skills of both performers". James Rae's usual rhythmic style with influences from popular music here has added impressionistic feel at times. |
