Solaris Duo (Video non authorized)

Joel Diegert saxophone
Mariam Vardzelashvili piano

from Austria

The Solaris Duo was formed in 2008 and has since thrilled audiences throughout Europe with their dynamic style and versatile programming. They were initially based in Paris but in 2011, they relocated to Vienna in 2011. The Duo can be heard in concert performing a variety of repertoire, but their true raison d’être is to promote new music and to develop the future repertoire of the saxophone-piano duo.

In April 2011 the Duo was a prize-winner of biannual Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition, where the jury proclaimed them to have a "unique and lively sense of ensemble playing..." and "an ensemble in the highest meaning of the word, functioning as a single expressive organism on stage."

A Gust Inside the God - Shawn Allison

In his Sonnets to Orpheus, German poet Rainer Maria Rilke likens true singing to wind through a lyre's strings, rather than an expression of love or passion. This piece will explore this idea through the delicate extremes of the tenor saxophone's timbral range, combined with chiming, harp-like piano effects. - Shawn Allison

Yendo (an allant) - Luis Naón
