This ensemble is an essential element of the Strasbourg saxophone landscape. Former and current students from the Strasbourg conservatory and superior conservatory and members of the 'Sax&Co' association share their passion for the 12 saxophones ensemble sound.

Performing more and more concerts, these young musicians are used to exploring the ensemble repertoire from classical transcriptions to world premieres in collaboration with contemporary avant-garde and 'crossover' style composers.

Internationally regarded, the Strasbourg conservatory is know associated to the first French superior university for arts who offer music & visual arts education with bachelor & master program.

Based in Strasbourg, 'Sax&Co' is a very active saxophone association who organise each year a major festival 'Les Rencontres du Saxophone' and regulary commissioned new pieces for saxophone to many composers.

Philippe Geiss is professor at the Strasbourg Conservatory & Superior University for arts and 'Sax&Co' artistic director. An internationally regarded saxophonist and widely performed composer, he is one of the first musicians from the French saxophone school who has built his own 'crossover' style between classical and improvised music.

Dans Cité 2.015 - Christophe Monniot

Christophe Monniot uses a dark and deep language for this new piece. Intense harmony and complexes time signatures give to his language a very special tone color somewhere between modern jazz and great composers of the early twentieth century. The title is a joke about the word "density" which sound like "dans cité" in French. 2.015 is about the next WSC in 2015.

This piece was commissioned by "Sax&Co"

Bach's pianola - Andy Firth

Bach is working on a fugue late one night when suddenly a pianola from the 20th century drops into his room. Bach was curious about the pianola and wanders over to it and sits down. As he begins to pedal he hears music that he'd never imagined - ragtime, waltzes and swing!

Valse des becs - Emmanuel Séjourné and Philippe Geiss

Philippe Geiss & Emmanuel Séjourné are used to integrating humor in their compositions. As some famous pieces like "Music de tables" from Thierry De Mey or other George Aperghis work's, this mouthpieces valse use gesture and humor in short and refreshing piece.
