The Memphis Connection

Chris Beaty, associate professor of music at Eastern New Mexico University-USA, directs the Jazz Studies Program and teaches applied saxophone and saxophone quartets. Dr. Beaty was a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholar Grant in 2011 and was a Visiting Professor of Jazz Studies at the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music in the capital city of Riga during the spring semester (January-June 2011).

He holds the Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree from Austin Peay State University, the Master of Music degree from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Memphis.

Allen Rippe, Assistant Professor of Saxophone at The University of Memphis-USA, began his musical training at the Interlochen Arts Academy, continuing at Hartt College of Music at the University of Hartford. He received the Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan. His primary teachers were Jack Kripl and Donald Sinta.

In 2009 Rippe was a featured soloist at the XV World Saxophone Congress in Bangkok, Thailand, performing his commission of 'Shades of Mediterranean' by Tolga Ozdemir.
