The Tsukuba Saxophone Quartet is one of the leading amateur saxophone groups in Japan. It plays a wide range of saxophone quartet music, from classical to popular and concentrates especially on rarely played works for saxophone quartet. The group is made up of graduates of Tsukuba University and has competed in several chamber music competitions winning prizes.

Since the Tsukuba Saxophone Quartet was formed it has held four recitals and collaborated with many musicians. In 2007-2009, the group concentrated on playing works for saxophone and electronics. In 2008, the group devoted itself to the arrangement of Glazunov's Concerto for soloist and 8 saxophones. During 2008-2011, the group played many premiered and amateur premiered works for saxophone quartet.

In the research area of classical saxophone, the Tsukuba Saxophone Quartet has published articles in "Saxophonist" the official publication of JSA and has also written for "Pipers" and "The Sax" the popular music instrumental magazines in Japan.

Ryukuan Fantasy - Yasuhide Ito

This short and joyful piece is based on the traditional music of Ryukyu which is located in the south island in Japan. Yasuhide Ito,who composed this piece, is known as a famous composer in Japan, especially in the field of wind orchestra and chamber music.

Chaconne (from Partita No. 2 for Unaccompanied Violin BWV.1004) - Johann Sebastion Bach arr. Yasuhide Ito

This piece was arranged by Yasuhide Ito for the Masato Kumoi Saxophone Quartet in 2005. It was originally based on Busoni's famous arrangement for the piano. We consider the piece to be one of the really great arrangements of baroque music for the saxophone quartet.
