The Nutcracker has been performed by countless ballet companies every year and it has become a holiday classic for many decades. The overture is originally scored for somewhat unconventional instrumentation of 3 flutes (piccolo), 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, a triangle, violins, and violas.

Le Tombeau de Couperin, - Maurice Ravel

i. Prélude
ii. Fugue
iii. Rigaudon

Ravel pays homage to the French Baroque composer Françiois Couperin as well as the Baroque style and formalism in Le Tombeau de Couperin.  Timbre of the reed quartet adds more colors to the expressive music.  Three movements are chosen from the six-movement suite.

Three Preludes - George Gershwin

i. Allegro ben ritmato e deciso
ii.Andante con moto e poco rubato
iii. Allegro ben ritmato e deciso

Originally composed for solo piano, Gershwin's Three Preludes successfully incorporates elements of jazz into concert music. The outer movements are highly rhythmic and energetic while the middle movement has a lethargic and bluesy atmosphere.
