La meva anima magnifica al Senyor - Ian Stewart
La meva anima magnifica al Senyor is an instrumental imagining of a setting of the Magnificat text. One soprano saxophone sings over a simple drone, the other two saxophones join in to enrich the melody, sometimes in unison, at other moments slightly out of phase. The overall effect is one of timelessness and of reaching back to ancient Mediterranean music.
Elegy - Charlotte Harding
Elegy was commissioned by Flotilla in 2011. The piece has a clear but poignant narrative, building steadily, the melodic contrapuntal lines interact and weave together before being joined by piano and reaching a chaotic, emotive climax. It then subsides into a peaceful, but searching, chorale.
Allegro, 4th movement from Trio Sonata n.2 in G minor - Jan Dismas Zelenka, arr. Horch
Jan Dismas Zelenka was a contemporary of J.S. Bach, and a court musician in Dresden. His six trio sonatas, rediscovered in the mid-20th century, are now regarded as among the most important Baroque wind chamber works. This energetic movement features interlocking soprano lines, lyricism, and monumental architecture. |
