Four internationally renowned saxophonists, Rhett Bender, Jennifer Turpen, Scott Turpen and John Bleuel, join together to form the Globe Saxophone Quartet. The group began playing together in 1994 as graduate students at the University of Georgia. Early successes include twice competing in the semi-final round of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and winning first prize in 1995 at the NACWAPI National Symposium Chamber Music Competition. The quartet members are professors of saxophone at universities across the United States: Rhett Bender, Southern Oregon University, Jennifer and Scott Turpen, the University of Wyoming and John Bleuel, University of West Georgia. Each summer the Globe Saxophone Quartet serves as faculty-in-residence at the Siskiyou Saxophone Workshop in Ashland, Oregon. The quartet has performed throughout the United States on chamber music series including the Wyoming Cultural Outreach, Community Concerts Series, and Britt Festival. The GSQ concerts feature beautiful and multi-faceted works for four saxophones, with musical styles running the gamut of classical, jazz, and world music. Members of the Globe Saxophone Quartet are Yamaha Performing Artists and perform on Rousseau Mouthpieces.
