Poetry - Adrienne Albert

Commissioned by Wayne Leechford, "Poetry" for Baritone Saxophone and Harp was inspired by the poems of Edgar Allan Poe, specifically "Annabel Lee". The cadence of the words seems to work well as a musical line, and the baritone saxophone speaks to the darkness and depth of love and despair of the poetry. The work begins with the harp evocative of the love and the sea so eloquently described in Poe's writing.  The saxophone is the lover despairing of losing his love, the beautiful Annabel Lee.

Circadia - Adrienne Albert

i. Cycles
ii. Nightfall
iii. Spring Ahead

"Circadia" refers to the daily pulse and cycle of activities observed in many living organisms. "Cycles" is a wild and disjointed chase between the instruments. "Nightfall", is a reflective, melancholy and brooding piece that mirrors the descent from day into night. "Spring Ahead" is a ray of hope in which the instruments have fun cavorting and playing musical tricks on one another.
