Cassius Ensemble (Video non authorized)
from UK The Cassius Ensemble is a saxophone octet made up of students or recent graduates of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. They play a big range of repertoire including arrangements and original compositions by members of the group. The ensemble is based in London and is playing concerts and recitals at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Regent Hall. The members of the group have been tutored by saxophonists John Harle and Christian Forshaw, and approach the saxophone with a vocal sound. In the long run we plan to extend our repertoire with new works and arrangements to create a new set for electronic musician, saxophone octet, piano and electric bass. |
Double ai Quartetti Arcadia e Nelligan - Roberto Di Marino
Hotel de la Ville - Michael NymanHotel de la Ville de la Concorde was written for an album called La Traversee de Paris. The album consists of 17 pieces, each referring to a specific or generic location, historical incident, or cultural development in Paris since the time of the Revolution. There is a geographical emphasis to the first six pieces which describe the city itself without historical context. The subsequent pieces proceed in chronological order by namesake, as a musical timeline charting the city's rich and often violent history from 1789 to 1989.The Prayer - J. Gevorkian
Slip Reel - Cat EvisonOriginally written for a quintet of soprano saxophone, electric violin, bass guitar, marimba and percussion, Slip Reel was the first of 3 movements from Catherine's suite 'From the East of Ireland' first performed by the composer herself in 2007. The suite was inspired by a mixture of Eastern European and Celtic folk music, with Slip Reel edging towards the latter. |
